American Assistance Free Phone and Plans 2020(with Guide)

American Assistance is a wireless carrier fully devoted to those eligible for the Lifeline Assistance brought to you by American Broadband & Telecommunications and supported by the Universal Service Fund.

How to Get American Assistance Free Phone From Government

American Assistance is available in over 20 states and uses T-Mobile and Sprint networks for operation. If you are located in any of the following states or USA areas and meat the eligibility requirements presented below, you can get a FREE plan and a FREE phone: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, West Virginia, or Wisconsin.

American Assistance Free Phone Lifeline Eligibility

There are two ways to get an American Assistance FREE plan and a FREE phone:

  1. PARTICIPATION (at least one member of the household must participate in one of the programs listed below) IN CERTAIN PUBLIC ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS. Here is the full list of these programs:
    1. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
    2. Medicaid
    3. Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
    4. Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
    5. Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension
    6. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) General Assistance
    7. Tribally-Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
    8. Tribal head Start
    9. Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations
  2. LOW INCOME: if a household income equals or is below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Documents Need

In either of the above two cases you will need to provide the following information/copies of documents containing that information:

  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Last 4 digits of your Social Security number (or Tribal identification number)
  • Address
  • If applying based on PARTICIPATION you will also need to provide a document proving that participation; this can be a copy of a member’s card or a cover letter issued by the organization.
  • If applying based on LOW INCOME, you will need to provide documents proving low income; this will require one or more of the following:
    • A copy of last year’s State or Federal income tax return
    • Three consecutive months’ worth of your most current pay stubs
    • Social Security benefits statement
    • Veterans Administration benefits statement
    • Retirement/Pension benefits statement
    • Divorce decree or child support document
    • Unemployment/Workers Compensation benefits statement

How to Apply for an American Assistance Free Phone

The American Assistance promotes its 3-step application process:

  1. Gather your “Proof of Participation” Documents and “Proof of ID”
  2. Take a Picture of your “Proof of Participation Documents” and “Proof of ID” (PDF, JPG, PNG, or GIF files are accepted).
  3. Complete the Online Application and Upload your “Proof” Pictures:
    1. Online Application: https://registration.americanassistance.com/
    2. Upload “Proof” Pictures using any of these methods:
      1. Email: Attach your proof document to an email and send it to [email protected]
      2. Text message: send photos to 877-266-7212
  • Fax: Include a fax cover page with your name and email address and fax your document with the cover page toll-free to 1-877-211-3705.
  1. Mail: Send copies of your proof documents by mailing them to American Assistance, One Seagate, Suite 600, Toledo, OH 43604

American Assistance doesn’t offer you an option to bring your own phone.

What to do if an American Assistance phone gets damaged, stolen, broken, or lost?

If you cannot locate your phone or it is damaged, let American Access know right away and they will suspend the service. That way, once your service is suspended, no one can use your remaining balance. They can help you get a replacement phone. American Assistance usually can have it to you in just a few days. The replacement fee does vary and the Customer Service Representative can advise you on what the fee will be.

Call them at 1.877.266.7212 to suspend your account and speak with a Customer Service Representative about the replacement fee.
