The California Lifeline program as well as other states’ Lifeline programs come with a list of rules and restrictions that must be followed, including:
- The Lifeline benefit is only available to one person per qualifying household.
- The Lifeline benefit is non-transferable, which means that it cannot be transferred to another household or even a household member even if eligible.
- Qualifying households can only receive one Lifeline benefit from one provider at a time. Nevertheless, households can switch to another provider in their area at any time, as long as they cancel their benefits with the first one.
